Hi there everyone, attached are some photos of your cage diving excursion
15/02/07 and some of previous trips that week. Unfortunately the day was an
example of nature being unpredictable and stubborn and a severe change in
weather conditions! also sea sickness took its toll.. however we were still
lucky enough to catch a glimpse of 2 great whites which was still very lucky!
Below is a list of shark stats and weather conditions from your day trip.
Date:15/02/07
location: Joubertsdam (4th anchor!)
Sea condition: Morning calm, PM: Choppy, wind picked up.
Water depth: 13.7m
Average water temp: 20 degrees C
Cloud coverage: 90%
Water viability: 2m
Wind direction: NW
Wind speed:10 kts
Current direction: SE
Bait type: Yellow fin Tuna
Arrival time: 12:30
Number of sharks sighted: 2
Individual lengths: 1.5-2.0m
Note: encounters were too brief for photos however we did manage to catch and
have a close look at a juvenile bronze whaler shark. A member of the requiem
family of sharks this individual is usually associated with the sardine run
further east. A photo is attached of the little guy who of course we put back
and he swam off at lightning speed! Great whites were unusually passive down to
various reasons, mainly individual curiosity however. Many thanks for joining us
and kind regards. Also special thanks to young Dan for helping Alison with data
logging and research, photo also attached of you!.

Note: Started off with a slow day by the island, by moving inshore we were
extremely lucky to view as many sharks as we did. Especially some divers got
very close up viewings! The largest shark was very inquisitive and identified as
a male, with interesting scars along his left flank and a few on his
nose..possibly from seal predations. water visability allowed us to view the
sharks relatively clearly, excellent day in all and hope you enjoyed all it,
many thanks.
